Play “spot the shitworker” with this video featuring local heroes and long time MRR shite-workers Young Offenders! Apparently this is the “official” video — wonder what the unofficial one looks like? Oo-er missus!

SF was DOOMED!!

19 08 2009

I can’t believe no one has written about how fucking killer last weekend was! Sure, I have been to bigger fests with more people, and ones with higher profile bands, but those 5 days were all about the fucking Bay, and it totally ruled! Much respect to the folks at Thrillhouse and the hapless shitworkers who busted ass to set up nearly a dozen shows at venues and locations all over the City.

Friday night at Thee Parkside, the only night that leaned heavily on out of town bands, was fucking scorching! Full disclosure, my band played as well, but there can be no doubt that LA/Chicago band DESCARADOS brought the house down, while LA bands SEND THE DOGS and RAYOS X and PDX punks ADELITAS blew everyone’s minds! Of course, the Bay Area’s N.N. did not disappoint either. But what did disappoint loads of punks in attendance? LA Raw Ponx TUBERCULOSIS were not able to play the show. As a consolation to those in attendance, and a taste of the night for those not lucky enough to make it to SF last weekend, here’s the TUBERCULOSIS demo for your listening pleasure…and up the punks.

Photo Submission Guidelines:

  • Send up to 10 pictures.
  • We accept digital files and prints.
  • If you send prints and want them back, PLEASE PROVIDE A SASE!!! Otherwise prints will not be returned. Prints should be no larger than 8×10. Send all prints to MRR, ATTN: Photo Issue.
  • Digital files should be 10” at the longest side, at 300dpi. Please only send JPGs or TIFFs. You can email the files to Mark Murrmann at the email address below. You may also send a CD/DVD of images to MRR, ATTN: Photo Issue.

At the very least we need: the name of the band (or who is in the photo), when it was taken, where (city, state, country) and who took it. Include this information in the IPTC fields of the photos, or on a separate piece of paper/word document.

Make sure to include an email address at which you can be contacted, and a street address so we can send a copy of the magazine to you, if your photos are included.

Questions? Don’t hesitate to ask. Know someone you think would make for a good interview subject for the photo issue? Get in touch!

Due date for submissions is October 1, 2009.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #316 • September 2009

8 08 2009

mrr_316_bigMRR magazine #316 (Sept ‘09) features killer cover art courtesy of Guillem of Barcelona’s DESTINO FINAL, and an epic interview with classic crusters AMEBIX, from their recent US tour… There’s an interview with Oakland’s own BORN/DEAD, one with an Australian hardcore band MEATLOCKER, and some more heavy hardcore with Florida’s DIVISIONS. We got a European tour diary from Chilean punkers ALTERCADO, and a feature on the three day hardcore punk party that is the No Way Fest. There’s the buzzsaw pop-punk of SOMETHING FIERCE from Houston, and MUTATING MELTDOWN, who are continuing the Austin lady-made art punker tradition… There’s a Lance Hahn feature on Crass Records’ poet in residence Nick Toczek, an interview with Isy from the Cowley Club, an anarchist community center and show space in Brighton, UK, as well as an Albany scene report, and a piece on Albany’s teenage dirtbags ANAL WARHEAD. All of this plus the usual columns, news, movies, books, and the most extensive record review section in punk!

Go to our BACK ISSUES page to order this issue.

Someone stole the Che Cafe’s sound system!!

7 08 2009

“Yeah no joke. Fucked up. Words kind of fail me. Both stage monitors, three power amps, ALL of our mics, xlr cables, direct in boxes, the sound board itself, ALL of it has been STOLEN. We’re looking at 8 to 10 thousand dollars worth of equipment fucking gone.

The plus side is shows WILL go on. We’ve been through too much already this year to let this even possibly end the Che Cafe. If you’re scheduled to play and are concerned please reply or get in touch with the person that has booked your show.

Please repost and spread the word. Its a beyond fucked up situation and we’re going to need help in getting everything back up to normal. If anyone hears anything, your friend suddenly has a sweet PA, sound system, plethora of mics and cables or notice what is probably our equipment on ebay or craigslist, etc, please please please contact us. Specifically:
Mackie 16 Channel 1604 VLZ Pro
2 X QSC RMX 1450
1 X QSC RMX 2450

Fuck you to whatever piece of garbage broke in and ransacked the place. A police report has been filed. This problem will be solved.”

This is bad news! Che Cafe is an all volunteer run collective space that has been putting on all ages shows in San Diego for decades-if you know anything or can help em out click the link below

Mondo Vision #5!

4 08 2009

Hey check out the new episode of Mondo Vision,  featuring three of my favorite current bands: Tuberculosis from South Central LA, XYX from Monterrey Mexico and Brilliant Colors from San Francisco. Mondo Vision is a great video scene report, usually covering bands from the Bay Area, but with the agenda of inspiring kids to make their own scene and document it! DIY or DIE!
