MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #332 • January 2011 • Punk Comics Issue!
6 12 2010Hey!!! It’s another exciting issue of Maximum Rocknroll! Why is it so exciting?! Because it’s the Punk Comics Issue!! That’s right! In our January 2011 issue (MRR #332), with the help of Janelle Hessig from Tales of Blarg acting as guest coordinator, we have compiled an issue jam packed with comics and interviews with artists who have helped shape the US punk scene with their medium. We have an illuminating article about the elusive and rumored still alive Shawn Kerri. She is the amazing and original, though unsung artist behind some well-known Germs artwork and the famous Circle Jerks skankin’ guy. Interviewed in this issue are the famed Jaime Hernandez of Love and Rockets, discussing the his characters, their bodies, their personalities and their origins; Gary Panter, who created the iconic Screamers image and some beautifully frightening characters; and Mimi Pond of the Mabuhay Gardens scene in the early San Francisco punk world. We also have a talk with Ed Luce, creator of Wuvable Oaf, on his hilariously funny, punk and stereotype-shattering “post gay/post bear” work with collaborator Matt Wobensmith. Also featured are comics from Avi Spivak, Liz Suburbia, John Holmstrom, Bobby Madness, Dennis Worden, Cristy Road, Ben Snakepit, Ted May and Jeff Wilson, Janelle Hessig, Craig Bostick, Fly, Caroline Paquita, Jaime Crespo, Kaz, Josh Bayer, Ben Lyon, Alex Ratcharge, and Liz Baillie and a cover artwork by Eric Hone. And fear not — we still have the most extensive record reviews section in punk, and all your favorite columnists!
SORRY, THIS ISSUE OF MRR IS SOLD OUT.

Best idea for an issue ever.
one of my favorite issues in ages! even though i appreciate every issue that comes out.
Great issue (as usual). I found Ben Lyons “Great Moments in Punk History” hilarious (GG Allin first eats his own shit had me in stitches) and found Liz Baillie’s “Record Collecting and the Cartoonist Tradition” so true! ha ha
Thanks again for another killer issue.
George Tabb’s column A Punk Rock Christmas Story left me in awe. The first paragraph alone is worth cover price for the entire issue. This was my first exposure to MRR (via the comic book world Isotope Comics in SF rules!) and now I can’t wait to read the rest of the issue. Cheers George!
MRR should stop running bands interviews and make EVERY issue the punk comics issue. Columns+ reviews+ comics = way to go. Serious!
Brilliant issue! Thanks.
Can Punk Comics be an annual issue?
