Band name:
RIDE OR DIE
Date & location formed:
Youngstown, Ohio, April 2014.
Reason for forming:
We were all sick of not being in bands and Lucy had never been in a band before. They were humming while we were kicking some ass playing corn hole. I asked if they would start a band with me and Rayne (Human Petting Zoo) offered to play drums. We practiced the next day and had a show in our friend’s garage the next week.
What are your lyrics about?
Queer issues, women’s rights, animal rights, personal issues, skateboarding, bike riding, being femme as fuck.
How would you describe your sound?
Fast and in your face. Occasionally dark and dreary. Skate punx.
What’s in the future for this band?
Make tapes for our split with BA’AD TRIP, record a split with The Bijous, keep writing songs and booking shows with awesome bands that want to pass by our area, tour, then take over the world.
Date & location formed:
January 2014 in Queens, New York.
Reason for forming:
It’s a dream to form a punk band in New York City. That’s the plan when we all met. One day Rupert Estanislao of Aklasan Records told us he would help us release our demo. We immediately grabbed the opportunity. Friends back home [the Philippines] also encouraged us. We started out as drinking buddies just hanging out, the rest is history.
What are your lyrics about?
Our songs are mainly about the third world struggle, poverty and oppression. We have songs against discrimination, racism, homophobia and other shit. We write songs about the people we love and the people we hate, mostly based on real life experiences that we feel we should share to others, no limits. Some of the songs are in Tagalog and Bisaya (Filipino languages).
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is a product of the Philippine hardcore punk scene in the 1980s. Our influences include bands like Dead Ends, GI and the Idiots, Intoxication of Violence, Betrayed and Urban Bandits.
What’s in the future for this band?
We will be touring the West Coast next year for Aklasan Fest and play with other Pinoy punk bands based here in the US. A 7″ is also a possibility.
