Band name:
INDONESIAN JUNK

Date & location formed:
April 2014, Milwaukee, WI.

Reason for forming:
I (Daniel) had a bunch of songs amassed over a couple of years, and didn’t really have an outlet for them. I eventually taught myself how to play drums and just recorded demos of the songs myself and threw them on Bandcamp. The tunes attracted Johnny and David and within a couple months we had a real band.

What are your lyrics about?
Nothing too heavy. I did go through a wicked divorce while writing these songs, so there’s a lot of cheesy emo stuff about broken hearts and blah blah blah. Then there’s songs about space monsters and drinking Robitussin and normal hangin’ out stuff.

How would you describe your sound?
Big dumb hooks and big dumb riffs. The two bands we most get compared to are Testors and ZZ Top. I guess that makes sense somehow, but I’m way more into Testors than I am ZZ Top. Most of our influences come from ’70s punk, power pop, NWOBHM and glam rock.

What’s in the future for this band?
Lots of Midwest shows. We have a 7″ coming out soon on Lost Cat and Some Weird Sin Records. Then we want to hit up the East Coast for a couple weeks (and anywhere else that will have us). We also have most of a full length recorded and hope to have that out by the end of 2015.

Band name:
BLUNT FORCE

Date & location formed:
Spring 2014 in central New Jersey.

Reason for forming:
I’d had some songs written for a while, and had some false starts with getting a new band going. I figured calling on some friends who I had played with in previous bands (Wormeaters and Phibes) would work out best. I was also itching to sing in a band again.

What are your lyrics about?
I try to address social and political issues, but overall just people I don’t like.

How would you describe your sound?
We are heavily influenced by early ’80s Boston HC/Punk (Slapshot, SSD, DYS) mixed with UK82 oi and punk (Combat 84, Discharge).

What’s in the future for this band?
Playing shows when we can, and working on new songs

Band name:
THE JOYKILLS

Date & location formed:
December 2011, Atlanta, GA, at a storage unit that shared space with both a death metal band and a mariachi troupe.

Reason for forming:
It’s been a dream come true to play the loudest, greatest music ever. They also give free beer to musicians.

joykills

What are your lyrics about?
Our lyrics are often satirical: highly loaded, maybe even spiritual. Oftentimes, they’re devoid of anything meaningful because I said so. I’m frequented with bouts of manic behavior and frustration. At first, the lyrics can be a real bitch. Then, I might be sitting at traffic light or taking a bubble bath and have flashes of something resembling an epiphany, steering me towards a terrifying, serene moment.

How would you describe your sound?
A nightmare since 1983. It’s aggressive and dissonant. We appreciate No Wave and post-punk styles, but our songwriting is borderline accessible. As much as I love to scare children, I’m a sucker for a hook and melody.

What’s in the future for this band?
We live in the moment. The future is yet to be written. However, we have a new album set to debut early spring on our label, Blood Drunk Records. As well as a West Coast national tour that’s shaping up to be a doozy! Come play with me!
