Nunofyrbeeswax Hablo Raro LP

I have to say, when I saw the name of the band, part of me was a little nervous that that would be the best thing about them (meaning, I think it’s brilliant). Let me put you at ease and assure you that is not the case. This is straightforward, lo-fi, raw garage rock. I’m pretty sure that makes it punk rock. Throw in some dueling male/female vocals, and you’re headed right up my alley. That said, it always needs to be quality. Mid-tempo and with a strong bass line, this will have you not so much bouncing your head, but thrashing it from side to side. They have a song about Andre the Giant. The hell? This isn’t just “quality,” this is fucking great. Funny thing is, I don’t think they really give two shits what I think or what you think or what anyone thinks. You need to check this out. From Berlin, but I swear I heard Spanish along the way.

Nunofyrbeeswax / Top Down Diggin’ in the Dirt / Deep Thoughts split EP

With only two tracks on one side of an EP, NUNOFYRBEESWAX makes sure to leave their mark. They’re garage punk with a more unique edge. “Deep Thoughts” sounds more stripped-down in terms of sound, but in a great, punky way. I loved the tempo change in the middle of “André el Gigante,” which was much slower and led to a smooth transition into the fading out of guitar at the end of the song (not to mention, some sharp-witted lyrics). These guys are definitely worth checking out.

Nunofyrbeeswax Stratotoaster LP

Proto-punk, garage, lo-fi, poppy—hell, it’s just that Berlin sound! Serving up hot tracks from their clattering Stratotoaster, this album is all fun: driving percussion that’s way up front in the mix, and dreamy femme-vox ride over a variety of sounds, like a stand-up bass-walk from “Glitch,” or tambourine, cowbell, and horns on “Wax Bux.” No track sounds quite like the other, so it’ll keep you listening. This reminds me of releases from fellow Berlin label Phantom, if you’re interested in more. Get yrself exposed.
