Band name:
ÄORNATA (Djornata)
Date & location formed:
1st September 2012 (all drunk). Our fist rehearsal was in Klub Gromka, AKC Metelkova mesto, Ljubljana, Slovenia. We still rehearse there.
Reason for forming:
There is no big story behind it. We have all been part of a Slovenian punk scene since our teens, playing in different punk/crust/grind bands all our lives, can’t even imagine it any other way. This is our life, our way… Although we could name a number of bands that we love and who have influenced on us, we do share a strong sympathy toward old-school HC punk, specially coming from UK. And lately we noticed that in Slovenia there are no bands playing this style, so we said, “Fuck it, let’s play some old school — simple, fast and good.” So we did, and we are enjoying it every second.
What are your lyrics about?
Basically, about the world that surrounds us. About the punk/DIY scene on one side, anger toward the political, economcal and social structure (nowadays) of the world on the other. Nothing new, we guess, but we like it, so should you, haha.
How would you describe your sound?
Raw HC punk (influenced by pure ’82 hardcore) combinated with crust and grind.
What is the future for this band?
To become superstars, haha. No plans so far, just play as much is possible and make some new material.
Reason for forming:
Adam and Legs had been wanting to start a band forever and SIREN SONGS (Legs and Nate’s old band) had just finished their final tour, with Zach filling in on drums, so we just started jamming.
What are your lyrics about?
Most of the songs are about anxiety and being shitty at relationships. You always want what you don’t have until you have it.
How would you describe your sound?
Low-fi punk with melodic vocals, poppy riffs and catchy oooo-oooos.
What’s the future of this band?
Two 7-inches coming out, on Kingfisher Bluez and Dirtcult. We just recording three new songs in Missoula and will have a third 7″ coming out on Minor Bird sometime in the future. And, hopefully, touring the East Coast soon? More exercising and healthier eating.
Reason for forming:
Dylan got really into late ’70s post-punk — Swell Maps, all that kind of stuff. Wrote some songs, then put a band together with people who had never really been in any bands prior, and continued writing songs together.
What are your lyrics about?
Pretty much every song mentions death in some way — either abstractly or directly. Not all of it is necessarily so dismal, it’s just something that’s on my mind a lot. My death, the death of people I love.
How would you describe your sound?
A little all over the place because we all like experimenting with different kinds of songwriting. Like I said, late ’70s post-punk is definitely something we are all into — I’ve always just wanted to sound like Joy Division, really. We all really like Nirvana too, I feel like their songwriting definitely finds its way in. I don’t know, it’s not all that simple though.
What is the future for this band?
Full-length record is in the works, as well as a tour. I just joined a band around here called Vacation, and we will be doing a lot of touring in the coming year, but Mardou will also be touring this coming year.
