Band name:
RATA NEGRA
Date & location formed:
Madrid summer of 2014.
Reason for forming:
We are friends and we wanted to have a project together. Also Fa (guitar) and me (bass and vocals) had Juanita y los feos which was coming to an end, so we wanted to continue doing something. Pablo also has LA URSS but his bandmates live in another cities so it’s dificult for them to put together a rehearsal.
What are your lyrics about?
Anything that concerns us, likes us, interest us, or could be a good story. Everything and nothing in particular.
How would you describe your sound?
I don’t like to describe my sound. I hate being categorized and I’m sure that we sound different to each person.
What’s in the future for this band?
We’re currently recording our first LP.
Date & location formed:
We formed in the winter of last year (2015) in Edmonton, Alberta.

Reason for forming:
We formed with the intention of playing at Not Enough Fest 2015, which some of us also help organize. The festival is for brand new bands that are comprised entirely of people that are queer, trans, or women. We wanted to play the kind of music that we’d be excited to listen to, for a festival that we were passionate about.

What are your lyrics about?
Our lyrics are pretty unapologetically sad. They tend to be about the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that we’ve experienced violence.
How would you describe your sound?
Sleazy pop punk.
What’s in the future for this band?
Not sure about the future! Keep playing shows, putting out music, hopefully tour someday.

Reason for forming:
To start a band that was actually fun and enjoyable to play in and to play a style of music that we all genuinely appreciate. We’ve all been friends for awhile and all have similar tastes as far as current bands we think are making sick shit right now.
What are your lyrics about?
Bratty stressed out rants about things that get under our skin.
How would you describe your sound?
A harsh contrast of bright and heavy. There is a tongue-in-cheek element to what we play because we find bands that play this kind of music and are dead serious about it, pretty uninteresting. There is a pop sensibility that encompasses most of our songs and everything is purposely recorded to sound tight and angular. That being said it still brings an element of aggression and filth.
What’s in the future for this band?
More shows in other cities, new recordings that we are hoping someone will want to release physical copies of, road trip out east this summer???
