This four-song release is well produced, featuring medium/slow-paced moody post-punk. There’s a decent amount of power, but the excitement level never quite boils. Also, given the language barrier, a lot is lost in this music where you can hear the singing so clearly, and where, I’m sure, the lyrics set the whole mood.
Three tunes here: Side A is a long, slow punk tune which gets a tad tedious, while the two numbers on the flip are upbeat and melodic with jangly guitars. Good.
When I think of modern Icelandic music, I think of moody post-punk and some experimental stuff. That’s exactly what we get on this tape. Only one or two groups (VONBRIGDI, for example) really play driving punk.
A damn good comp of Icelandic acts ranging from straightforward punk to more conventional rock sounds. SOGBLETTIR, GULT AD INNAN, and the DAISY HILL PUPPY FARM stand out as the best.
All Icelandic groups here, including S.H. DRAUMUR, SOGBLETTER, and more. Mostly straightforward punk, some more experimental, some on the commercial side. Generally pretty good.
