A pounding, eerie but simplistic guitar/noise post-punk throbber on the A-side while the B-side is a bit poppier but still simple and big in sound. They’ve got a live feel despite the studio recording, which probably saves them.
The B-side is a GEORGE THOROGOOD-type blues/bar band dumbo song, but the A-side is a killer cover of the LONNIE MACK instrumental “Wham.” Don’t know who KATON is, but KODA was a mainstay in BROWNSVILLE STATION.
A “…Youth” band that’s not hardcore? Yep, pure psych/punk here, and though they’re hardly “psychotic,” they do rock pretty good. Do an ELEVATORS cover, as well as the FE-FI-FOUR PLUS 2’s “I Wanna Come Back From the World of LSD” and two originals. Not remarkable, but decent.
I don’t know who Terry Gibson is but I think he thinks he’s Dave Edmonds.
’60s-influenced yet not derivative pop-rock. Good beat on two of the three tracks, owing more to bluesy rock with punk tinges (like GUN CLUB) than anything else, only cleaner sounding.
Two uneventful covers of ’50’s tunes. For a good update of the B-side, check out the KINKS’ cover of this CHUCK BERRY obscurity on their debut You Really Got Me LP.
Four Mersey-like tunes, but nothing to click your Cuban heels over. Why bother rehashing the past, especially with cover tunes, when the originals win hands down?
The ZETTLERS, TRAPPERS and RINGO & MAINERS all deliver two songs each of instantly disposable R’n’B and Mersey stuff dating from the mid-’60s.
