Oi!

Oi Polloi / Betrayed Skins n’ Punks, Volume Two split LP

This split LP contains OI POLLOI from Scotland and BETRAYED. The latter play pretty unexciting but competent Oi with lyrics that range from the standard working class oppression themes to dubious calls for skinhead unity. OI POLLOI, on the other hand, rip like crazy and have lyrics that rise above the norm.

Complete Control Bricks Blood n Guts (in 1985) LP

The first of many Oi! releases to be put out by Roddy of the OPPRESSED (a label looking to non-racist Oi! music. Incidentally, he’s looking for US Oi! bands for a UK Oi! comp LP of this nature.). Decent Oi!, and a project worth supporting.

Condemned 84 Battle Scarred LP

Quintessential British Oi! with all the melodic aspects melded to the street lyric themes. A powerful guitar emphasis makes some of these tracks quite enjoyable from a musical point of view, but this is not OI POLLOI.

Oi Polloi Unite and Win! LP

Some serious Oi! produced by this dedicated Scottish band. Twelve great hard-edged melodic anthems backed by strong sing-a-longs and power production. The lyrics stick to an anti-government/pro-“skin and punk unity” stance and don’t even come close to right-wing bullshit. A good record by a band that keeps on going.

V/A This is Oi!: A Streetpunk Compilation LP

A non-fascist skin (“street-punk” is what they call it) comp with the OPPRESSED, OI POLLOI, COMPLETE CONTROL, BARBED WIRE, and more. OI POLLOI and BARBED WIRE come off with the most energy and determination, while the rest sort of hang together undistinguishable.
